“Try not to be intimidated when you begin,” explains Dan, “everyone was new to CrossFit once.” This statement couldn’t be more accurate! Dan began his CrossFit journey by signing up for a six-week challenge—a beginner, CrossFit-style workout. Towards the end of the challenge, Dan’s group repeated its first workout. To Dan’s amazement, his fitness levels had increased by 50%. Dan says, “It just clicked. CrossFit works. An athlete can significantly improve fitness at any age by constantly varying a workout, taking away the machines and treadmills, and learning body awareness.” Dan has dabbled with running, triathlons, and other athletic pursuits, but nothing felt right like CrossFit. Nothing has lasted like CrossFit. The other component that is so important is grit. Yes, grit. Dan thinks CrossFit has improved his mental and physical stamina, which has positively carried over into work and family life.

Most of us see Dan at the gym early morning, joking with and encouraging fellow athletes. However, here are some details you may not know. He prefers the country to the city; his favorite cheat food is pizza, while his go-to healthy food is steak. His personal goal would be to deadlift 405 pounds at age 70! If he could have a superpower, it would be the ability to deliver karma. In Dan’s words, “Yeah, that would be awesome!” Dan lives in New Jersey with his wife, twin elementary-aged boys, and an adorable 14-year-old chihuahua, Remy.
